EUROLTA for Language Trainers of adults
- this course is a part of the blended learning training course that last 10 months. The rest of the programme is held online.
- The EUROLTA CERTIFICATE LEVEL 1 is offered to participants who have completed the course in the blended form and have submitted their portfolio for evaluation by the ICC
- This course is offered in Greek. It can be offered in English, as well as in other languages, with the help of a trainee who can translate/ interpret into trainees’ mother tongue (upon request).

This training programmes offered under the EUROLTA scheme reflects a modern approach to language teaching and teacher training. Certification is based on the evaluation of a dossier containing samples of the teacher's work. The Level One EUROLTA Certificate certifies the holder’s ability to plan and deliver classes of a set study programme and recommended teaching resources within a certain institutional context as well as to reflect on one’s performance and that of one’s peers. The EUROLTA Certificate is a world-wide recognized qualification in the adult language education.

This course provide opportunities for self-evaluation, assessment by peers as well as offer opportunities for trainees to evaluate the training programme. It also includes observation sessions in language classes for adults as well as practicum (teaching an adult Greek language class & / or microteaching in the trainee teachers’ target language). Before the observation sessions, participants will be appropriately prepared by the educators for the purpose and method of the observation. During this, participants will have the opportunity to assess teaching a language in the specific context by applying the techniques of observation, interviewing and group discussion. After its completion, participants will share their learning experience. Before the Practicum- Teaching experience, they will cooperate with their trainers so that they prepare their work more thoroughly.
The methodology and approach adopted in the training reflects the overall aims stated above. In particular, it aims to
The learning outcomes are achieved through a wide variety of educational tools and equipment (within the course we also implement the means of video, audio, objects- realia, diagrams, photos and games-activities) offering to participants the opportunity to enrich their educational experience. All this is estimated by our trainees who afterwards in the follow-up of the training, express their satisfaction on learning goals achieved. In the follow-up phase, as people are encouraged to form a network which will function as a meeting point, they are able to exchange didactic materials and proposals as well as useful ideas for promoting Greek language learning in different European countries. Participants are also encouraged to create an informal scientific institution that will represent the teachers of Greek as foreign language in Europe.
The assessment instruments we use include a questionnaire where participants answer open and close questions on their overall impression, the content, the trainers, the timetable etc. and where they give us written consent to use some of the photos of the seminar. (We also ask for permission to record and use some videos for future trainings). We also use a pie chart where everyone puts a dot according to her/ his satisfaction of the course. We also have some memos collected on a flip chart with different impressions, feelings and suggestions on them. Finally, during the evaluation session, we conduct a discussion on the topics covered and declare “what we would keep and what we would leave behind” (the “backpack and the garbage tin”). At the end there is always a farewell activity, such as “the Present”, that is highly appreciated where all are invited to write a gift-phrase on a paper which everyone has attached on their back. We contact participants who did not want to fill in the questionnaire in the classroom and ask for it, as this tool helps us evaluate and redesign the course better.
We finally evaluate the learning outcomes while communicating through the closed Facebook community and e-mails, as mentioned above, thus assuring the overall quality of our seminar. Our evaluation forms, feedback practices and continuous support though emailing and social media use ensures that learning outcomes are validated. The trainers keep contact through e-mail with the trainee teachers and they support them in implementing the didactic materials they have taken from the course. Usually the trainee teachers consult the trainers as to how to organise a new course or how to create a new placement test for their language learners.
We also help teachers use, adapt and assess a range of already prepared grading tests, created and piloted by us in Greek. We thus follow the participants’ progress in applying what they have learned from the course. Many times the participants come again, or send another colleague of them who works in the same organization, so we keep contact through this network taking great satisfaction that our seminars are widely recognized for their quality.
The course is based on the principles of participatory adult education, by embodying participants' experiences and fostering the exchange of their ideas, proposals and materials. Its focus is not merely on the didactic aspect of teaching adults but also on the participants' social and cultural knowledge gained through education, and teaching to different target groups throughout Europe.
During the course, the following techniques will be implemented: working in subgroups and pairs, role play, microteaching, lectures, guided conversation, brainstorming, language and educational games and experiential activities. The course not only includes training sessions among teacher- during the 10-day face to face course participants will have the chance to observe lessons and discuss about the didactic methodology and to teach themselves, supported by their trainers.

The course brings into contact language trainers of different European countries. It also includes cultural and intercultural activities. This way trainees learn about each other’s educational and social context, and traditions.
